If you hoped for a quick and orderly transition of the Boot Hill Saloon & Grill in Vega, Texas, you’re going to be disappointed.
On Saturday, an auction was held in an effort for owner Rory Schepisi to unload the business. The Amarillo Globe-News reported that day:
Caprock Auction Group’s Dirk van Reenen said the highest bidder and seller of the Boot Hill are working out an agreement for the restaurant.
Live and online bidding started at $25,000, van Reenen said, and the minimum reserve — an established but undisclosed dollar amount — of the property was met. […]
The sale is not final until an agreement is met between the seller and the highest bidder, van Reenan said. He was not sure when an agreement would be finalized.
But on Thursday, the Boot Hill account on Facebook posted this message:
The building that was once Boothill is still for sale or lease! Please private message for more information.
Asked to elaborate, a text message from Rory from the account said the reserve on the auction wasn’t met, “not even close.”
In an email Thursday, van Reenen wrote:
There has not been a sale. We were hoping to be able to bridge the gap between the high bidder and seller. At this time it does not seem like that will take place.
Schepisi, best-known for her reality television roles in CMT’s “Popularity Contest” and “The Next Food Network Star,” opened Boot Hill in 2007 on Route 66. She revealed in January after scheduling the auction that Boot Hill had suffered steep financial losses in the past year or so. Schepisi had complained about a lack of quality employees and a lack of support from Vega residents.
In the meantime, Schepisi says she plans to open another restaurant in nearby Amarillo.
