Discover Oklahoma spent a little time at Freddie’s Bar-B-Que and Steakhouse, located on Route 66 in Sapulpa, Oklahoma, for a quarter-century.
Oklahoma contains pockets of Lebanese-Americans who’ve lived in the Sooner State for generations, first with the Land Run and later during the oil boom of the 1920s. Many reside in Tulsa, Bristow, Drumright and a few other places.
Freddie’s gives you a great-value feast of first serving a salad, then tabbouleh and hummus, then a cabbage roll, then an appetizer of barbecued ribs and bologna, then finally the main entree of steak with a potato. Other Lebanese-American steakhouses in the region also serve these same appetizers. The granddaddy of Lebanese-American steakhouses probably is Jamil’s in Tulsa, which started on Route 66 but moved closer to Interstate 44 later.
