A few more details emerged about William Shatner’s Chicago-to-Los Angeles ride later this month in a futuristic-looking, three-wheeled motorcycle made by Rivet Motors.
Because of the relatively short schedule, it’s looking likely the star of the “Star Trek” television series and movies will have to spend considerable time on interstate highways.
Gleaning together information from the Associated Press and Tulsa World, here are Shatner’s stops during the eight-day tour that begins June 23:
- St. Louis
- Kansas City, Mo.
- Oklahoma City
- Amarillo, Texas
- Albuquerque
- Flagstaff, Arizona
- Las Vegas
- Los Angeles
Rivet Motors confirmed to the World the stops will not include Tulsa. With Kansas City included as a stop, it’s obvious Shatner will simply take Interstate 70 from St. Louis, thus bypassing most of Missouri’s Route 66.
More from the World article:
Although the ride was initially believed to be a Route 66 journey, it became a “mostly” Route 66 venture. […]
The ride will begin June 23 from the American Wrench shop outside of Chicago. Shatner teamed with American Wrench to create the first-of-its-kind Rivet motorycle. The cross-country ride will coincide with the release of the Rivet.
Accompanying Shatner on the ride will be team members from American Wrench and members of The American Legion Riders. Shatner will be meeting with Legion members along the route to raise awareness for the work the American Legion does nationwide.
According to the American Legion, Shatner will make stops at American Legion posts in the above cities. The ride also will be documented for a television show.
Here’s a recently uploaded video from Rivet Motors on the motorcycle’s development:

More details about the trip — including during the journey itself — will be tweeted through the Twitter accounts of Rivet Motors and Shatner.

It’s Not a motorcycle if it’s got 3 fecking wheels and is cover over,it’s a 3 wheeled CAR
The cover over the rivet is temporary just for bill, and I ride a Harley 3 wheeler been riding for more than 50 years and adding the 3rd wheel keeps me riding at 68 years old and bill is older than I am, so some day mister you will not put down seniors still riding maybe not on 2 wheels but still doing what I have done most of my life, where I am now you so soon shall be. Carl,So ride on Bill Shatner.
It is very sad that Shatner is doing such a disservice to Missouri’s 66. This is not the kind of publicity we need. The very fact he is going St. Louis to KC will make the unknowing think that either Route 66 does not exist in Missouri or that it includes KC and parallels I-70. This makes me very sad and disappointed.
Come on Will you have to go the Springfield that’s were it all started.
No, it didn’t start in Springfield (and we assume you mean Missouri, not Illinois): Springfield was merely where Avery, Piepmeier, and Avery’s second in command happened to be when the third guy happened to suggest the number 66 after the others got stuck in gridlock while arguing with Kentucky’s governnor. And if AASHO hadn’t approved the entire route system on November 11, 1926, Route 66 would have been DOA … but since the members did approve the system, the route was born that day in Chicago.
It’s not just Missouri that’s losing out: apparently, he’s skipping most of the Chicago-to-Joliet section in northern Illinois, too — which means skipping the Eastern Terminus & the Gateway to Route 66. One wonders how little of Route 66 will actually be ridden by the time they get to L.A. So much for riding the Mother Road …
They cancelled the stop at the City Museum this afternoon. I know they got a very late start in Chicago. That was dissapointing.
