If there’s a big Route 66 event, there’s a good chance Frank Kocevar, former owner of Historic Seligman Sundries in Seligman, Arizona, will be there.
During last weekend’s Rockabilly on the Route in Tucumcari, New Mexico, he took his video camera and got plenty of footage at the festival — and some familiar faces to the Route 66 community.
According to the Quay County Sun newspaper in Tucumcari, the festival drew 4,000 people this year. It sounds like organizers are growing it the right way — making it more family-friendly and making adjustments by learning from the successes and mistakes of previous festivals.
I suspect Rockabilly on the Route will become an annual fixture — as long as the event isn’t hampered by bad weather. Good planning always helps, but weather always makes a big impact on attendance of any outdoors festival.
