Flash flooding on Monday afternoon washed out part of the National Trails Highway, aka Route 66, near Ludlow, California, according to a weather report later that evening.
San Bernardino County didn’t have that listed on its online map as of Monday night, although those often aren’t reported until the next day.
It’s not known at this time how long it will take for the road to be repaired, nor the exact location of the washout.
The Mojave Desert’s portion of Route 66 has seen hard times in the past 13 months. In September 2014, severe flash flooding washed out about 50 bridges and damaged roadways along a stretch from Essex, California, to Ludlow. A significant part of Route 66 from Essex to just outside Amboy remains closed today until the county secures funds to rebuild historic bridges.
