If you’re in the Tulsa area Friday, you may want to make your way to the Route 66 Village on the southwest part of town and check out the Christmas lighting of its big steam locomotive at 6 p.m.
City councilor Jeannie Cue also said Santa Claus will be at the Route 66 Village from 5:30 to 7:30 that night.
The Route 66 Village centerpiece (so far) is that Frisco Meteor 4500 steam engine, a 350-ton behemoth that was restored and moved to the grounds in 2011, using a lot of help from the Tulsa-Sapulpa Union Railway’s diesel train.
The village also is the site of the 154-foot-tall Red Fork Centennial Derrick, which commemorates that part of Tulsa’s long oil-industry history.
Longer team, a Redfork Depot is planned on the site. The building would be used for meeting rooms, support offices and bathrooms and an art gallery.
