Wildfires on Wednesday threatened resorts on both sides of the Colorado River as more than 1,400 acres burned near Topock, Arizona, and Needles, California.
The Havasu News in nearby Lake Havasu City reported:
— The Park Moabi Result and Pirate’s Cove Resort were evacuated after hot embers buffeted by wind threatened them. A marketing manager at Pirate’s Cove also said zip-line poles and a disc-jockey pavilion (pictured) were damaged by fires.
— A frontage road from Interstate 40 in Arizona to Golden Shores, Oatman and Topock 66 Spa and Resort was closed. No damage was reported at the Topock 66, but that could change if the wind altered its direction.
According to the Los Angeles Times, the fire was just 5 percent contained as of Wednesday afternoon.
A fire official told the Arizona Republic said the cause of the fire appeared suspicious.
UPDATE 4/8/2016: The fires have burned about 2,200 acres, and firefighters had the blazes 40 percent contained as of Thursday, according to the Havasu News.
