Boot Hill in Vega sold; its restaurant days are done

The closed Boot Hill Saloon and Grill in Vega, Texas, sold recently, but its new life won’t be as a restaurant.

Its now-former owner, Rory Schepisi, wrote in a Facebook post and video Nov. 1:

Boot Hill Saloon And Grill is officially sold! Thanks for the memories. On to my next adventure.

Texts to Schepisi went unanswered.

However, Keila Bain at the Oldham County Chamber of Commerce said in an email Wednesday:

Katti Waters bought the property and is going to put her CPA business and a store of some time in it.. It will not be a restaurant. I will be sure to give her information about the opportunities for Rt. 66 travelers on that corner of Historic Route 66!! I think she is very
excited as it is a great building.

Schepisi, probably best-known for her reality-television roles in CMT’s “Popularity Contest” and “The Next Food Network Star,” constructed and opened Boot Hill on the corner of Route 66 and U.S. 385 in 2007 after falling in love with the region and one of the local cowboys during taping of “Popularity Contest” in Vega.

She put the restaurant up for sale in early 2012, citing time-travel commitments for many cooking and television gigs.

She later acknowledged Boot Hill’s revenue cratered after she ended a relationship with that cowboy. She closed the restaurant and put it on the auction block in early 2015 but couldn’t get a suitable buyer — until now.

Schepisi has said she’s trying to open another restaurant, probably in Amarillo.
