Starting tomorrow, the state of Arizona will begin selling an Arizona Route 66 license plate.
Arizona Department of Transportation’s Motor Vehicle Division on Monday will take orders for the plates at this website.
Specialty plates typically cost $25 a year, or $50 for a personalized one. Of that, $17 goes to the benefiting organization, which will be the Historic Route 66 Association of Arizona. The association also designed the plate.
According to a news release from the state, specialty license plates have generated $66 million in revenue for a variety of causes since 2007.
Steve Wingenfeld, a specialist in collector car insurance, shepherded the bill through the Arizona Legislature and raised the money required for it. He became enthused about the idea after participating in the annual Arizona Route 66 Fun Run with his wife and grandchildren.
Special Route 66 license plates also are officially available in Oklahoma, Missouri, Illinois and New Mexico.

Greta idea. Glad to see this additional support for the Historic Route 66 Association of Arizona.
