The city of Tulsa and the Tulsa Arts Commission picked Eric F. Garcia’s design, titled “Route 66 Rising,” as the sculpture that will be installed in the middle of the Admiral Traffic Circle at the intersection of Mingo Road and Admiral Place.
KOTV in Tulsa reported the sculpture will be installed by the end of the year.
The sculpture within the roundabout, the latter that is part of the 1926-1932 alignment of Route 66, will be paid for with Vision 2025 sales-tax money approved by voters.
Garcia, who is based in Albuquerque at EFG Creative, also designed the well-received roadrunner-influenced Route 66 directional signs in Albuquerque about two years ago.
According to a Facebook post by EFG Creative, the sculpture will be 35 feet tall, 90 feet long and weigh 25 tons. It’s a big beast.
