Route 66 fans who dream of owning a business on the Mother Road may have an opportunity in Seligman, Arizona — the Aztec Motel & Gift Shop there is up for sale for $221,000 because its owners want to retire.
A reader found an ad for the motel on the Las Vegas Craigslist website. Here’s part of the description:
Original structure, which includes living quarters, built in 1915. The rest was completed in the 50’s. This motel was completely renovated in 1996, including a new roof, new wiring, plumbing and each room was completely refinished with new sheet rock, etc.. For references check Trip Advisor for reviews.
The Motel consists of 4ea – 1 bed rooms, 3ea – 2 bed rooms and 1ea – 1 bed room suite with kitchen. The rooms have electric heat/AC in each room. There is a living quarters behind the office/gift shop which has a full kitchen with counter, living room, 2 bedrooms and 1-1/2 baths. This has a wood burning stove for heat and a swamp cooler for cooling.
The Aztec also earns stellar reviews from Yelp as well.
Here’s a video about the motel from 2011:
The place is at 22200 W. Old Route 66 in Seligman.
Marie Forquer, who co-owns the property with her husband, Dwight, said she’s owned the Aztec Motel & Gift Shop on-and-off for 21 years. It at one point years ago was purchased from them, but they had to take the motel back after it didn’t work out.
“We want to retire,” she said by phone Wednesday. “We retired once, but we had to come back. But we get a lot of repeat customers … CTI drivers and Schwan’s drivers, the frozen-food trucks. And I get people from all over with reservations — from Germany, France, England.”
Those interested in the property may call Marie Forquer at (928) 422-3055.
