A drive on Route 66 in Texas

West Texas A&M University marketing professor and Route 66 enthusiast Nick Gerlich and his daughter, Becca, produced this 15-minute video about Route 66 in the Lone Star State.

The footage and Gerlich’s narration weave travelogue, history, and modern-day observations of about 180 miles of Route 66 into the video. You’ll even see obscure alignments such as Jericho Gap and portions of the old road at the Amarillo airport and near the ghost town of Boise.

Or maybe you’ll enjoy this video as a simple form of armchair travel amid the azure blue sky.

Gerlich showed the video during a presentation Tuesday at the Center for the Study of the American West in Canyon, Texas, that also was broadcast on Facebook Live.

He shows other photographs from very old segments of the Mother Road after about the 20-minute mark.
