The owners of the 918 Bistro & Sports Bar along Route 66 in Stroud, Oklahoma, are offering to give away their business, plus $5,000 in startup money, to whoever submits a winning essay and $100.
Melanie and Michael Williams have owned the bar for four years but want to step away to concentrate on their other businesses, she told News 9 in Oklahoma City.
918 Bistro & Sports Bar will go to whoever is able to successfully put their goals into words. Applicants are asked to submit a short essay along with a $100 application fee.
“It needs to include what your view is for this restaurant, and what makes you want to own a restaurant. And how you’ll change it… what you want to do differently about this place,” said Melanie. […]
“The grand prize winner will win the restaurant, the fixtures, the equipment. Everything in it. The employees have actually agreed to stay on and move with the new owners, and try and get them set up and started,” said Melanie.
You will also be awarded a $5,000 start-up fund.
One can submit the essay and fee here. The website also states:
People often speak of 918 as if its our baby but the truth is that it is actually the other way around. 918 walked us though some of the roughest parts of our lives with grace. It taught us patience, kindness, and that everyone is built a little different than each other and that is part of the beauty in humanity. We have been afforded opportunities to host fundraisers for beloved cancer patients, donations centers for fire victims, pizza for DHS children, birthday cakes for foster children, fundraisers for funeral expenses, water drives for firefighters, toy/coat/and glove drives for police officers, and just plane ole always being “home” when people need someone to talk to. These are the things that grow your soul and we are extremely grateful to have been able to be a part of all of it.
This is a fully functioning restaurant on Historic Route 66 with a very supportive clientele and a very loving community. We cant wait to see how it grows you!
