The historic Chubby’s Bar and Grill in downtown Atlanta, Illinois, is up for sale because its owners wish to retire.
The bar at 111 Southeast Vine St., also described as being on 111 Southwest Arch St. (aka Route 66), lists for $79,900. The price has been reduced several times, and acquiring a working restaurant and bar for less than six figures typically is a steal, even if it needs TLC:
Here is your chance to own an established popular small Logan County town bar and grill — Chubbys! Current owners have enjoyed owning/operating the establishment for the past 11 years. Fully equipped/furnished — turn key ready. Large bar. Brand new grill in 2018. Full basement plus a full second story (in need of repair — but has limitless potential). Rear beer garden, too! This Atlanta, Illinois hot spot already has the reputation….. all it needs is you to add your touches and carry on the name for years to come! Note — pool table in addition to three gaming machines are currently leased.
The property is listed as being 1,400 square feet. I’ve found no history of the building online, but brick structures such as Chubby’s in the Midwest typically are well over 100 years old.
The Illinois Route 66 Scenic Byway website has described Chubby’s as offering “one of the best cheeseburgers on Route 66.”
Chubby’s sits just a block from the landmark Palms Grill Cafe, the Muffler Man that used to grace Henry’s Drive-In restaurant in Cicero, Illinois, and other attractions in downtown Atlanta.
