Here’s something you don’t see every day: A Chicagoland Route 66 enthusiast is offering for free his 2001 PT Cruiser with a Route 66-inspired wrap he designed for anyone who can give it “a good home.”
Artist Brian Gregory wrote to Route 66 News in an email:
I’ve driven this car almost to death and have enjoyed every single minute of it … many (although not enough) covering the 2,448 miles from chicago (where I live) to santa monica (getting my kicks on Route 66) … it’s now time to retire the old boy to a place where it can continue to be enjoyed by other fans of Route 66 … I can’t tell you how many people come up to the car to take pictures of it, with it and with me standing next to it … it has led to countless lunches and dinners with fellow travelers who find the car an inviting way to start up a lengthy conversation … and it has been a great way to expose my artwork to many who would not have otherwise discovered my work …
In a follow-up email, Gregory wrote:
My intention is for the car to go on display, it is in good running condition (I just had over $2000 of maintenance performed just before I drove it back from florida — 1200 miles — in may) BUT it is 18 years old and has almost 265,000 miles, so other than driving it to wherever it ends up, I am not interested in a situation where it would need to be driven on any sort of regular basis…hence, a museum with the right indoor display space would be the perfect fit …
Here’s a brief video of the car from 360 degrees:
Gregory also will create one-of-a-kind artwork to be sold alongside the car. People who are interested should call him (773) 354-0701 or email brian(at)studiobrian(dot)com.
