The Kingman Visitor Center in Kingman, Arizona, held a ceremonial lighting Wednesday evening of its new but retro-looking neon sign that stands along Route 66.
A 30-minute video was broadcast on Facebook Live that evening. The countdown to the lighting begins with about four minutes left:
Local resident and author Jim Hinckley posted this photo:
The sign was conceptualized and constructed by Legacy Signs of Kingman, electrified by Walker Electric and funded through the City of Kingman’s Tourism budget with a contribution from the Historic Route 66 Association of Arizona.
The visitor center is holding a photo contest through the month of May involving the sign. More details below:
In honor of Kingman’s newest landmark, and May being National Photography Month, we will be hosting a photo contest with the new neon entry sign! There will be 10 categories and the best picture from each category will win a brand new pin featuring the new neon entry sign! The categories are as follows:
1. Best Sunset
2. Best Selfie
3. Best Blue Skies
4. Best Family Picture
5. Best Pet Picture
6. Most Creative
7. Best Video
8. Best Boomerang
9. Best Nighttime
10. Best Perspective
Photo entries can be submitted to both Instagram and Facebook by using the hashtag #WinThePinOn66. The entries must contain the entry sign and must be submitted by midnight on May 31st. Each person can submit one image per category and winnings are limited to one per person.

Does this mean a person can enter for every category – and possibly be the winner in every category? Or enter every category, but be allowed to be the winner in only one of the ten categories?
Chris Commisso sounded good on the keys!
What a beautiful sign ! I love it.
Happy to see a sign rise and not be demolished…
