You only have a few weeks left to enjoy the Southwest cuisine of longtime chef John Sharpe at La Posada’s acclaimed Turquoise Room restaurant in Winslow, Arizona.
Sharpe and his wife, Patricia, stated in the restaurant’s email newsletter last week titled “TIME TO SAY GOODBYE!!!!” that “the time has come to hand the space back to the hotel” while “walking off into the sunset”:
After 20 years we have been blessed with amazing employees and loyal patrons. We leave the operation fully staffed with Johnny and Jesus in their respective positions.
The team is in place and they will continue to do their very best to deliver the experience you have come to expect.
It is bittersweet to leave this in the rearview mirror.
The handover will be on October 1st, 2020.
Sharpe also thanked customers for their loyal support, kind words, warm wishes and “that you stay safe and healthy as I sign off. We bid you a sweet farewell.”
Sharpe, 73, announced his coming retirement earlier this year. He said though he remained in good health, he wanted to spend more time with family and friends.
Sharpe in 2012 was named a semifinalist for Best Chef by the James Beard Foundation for his work at The Turquoise Room. His cuisine, such as pork carnitas, elk medallions and churro lamb, reflected the Southwest culture where La Posada is situated.
After spending time in kitchens at his native England and Switzerland, Sharpe went to America to preside over a variety of restaurants in Southern California before ending up in Arizona.

Thank you, mr. Sharpe. We spent a wonderful night during our Route 66 trip in La Posada – “Night at the Museum”- and enjoyed a great meal. I wish you all the best in your third career, as we call retirement in The Netherlands.

Ron and I stayed at the La Posada, Winslow, during our first Route 66 trip in August 2001. We ate in the restaurant. We thoroughly enjoyed the experience.
