The second Decopolis store, located along the main alignment of Route 66 in Tulsa, will hold its grand opening Saturday.
The event will be from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday at 1401 E. 11th St. (aka Route 66). Decopolis, dedicated to the city’s celebrated Art Deco architecture, still has its original store at 511 S. Boston Ave. in downtown Tulsa.
The grand opening also will coincide with another grand opening at Sky Gallery next door. Both will host outdoor vendors, craft demonstrations, giveaways and raffles of gift certificates. An open-air market will be held at nearby Buck Atoms Cosmic Curios on 66.
More about artist William Franklin’s Decopolis from the Tulsa World:
Decopolis is actually two separate establishments: “TulsaRama,” which features Tulsa-related and Art Deco-inspired merchandise and a mini-Art Deco museum, set in an environment designed to evoke a town square; and the “Discovitorium” that will allow visitors “to explore realms where Science and Magic meet.”
Here, one will find niches devoted to “Star Wars” and science fiction, and Harry Potter and other fantasy tales; an area dealing with fossils, archaeology and dinosaurs; and other things designed to inspire the imagination.
The stores are part of the Meadow Gold District, named after the enormous restored neon sign in the area.
