County preservation group to give $12,000 to St. Robert to continue neon park project

Pulaski County Route 66 Preservation will present a $12,021.63 check to the city of St. Robert, Missouri, at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday to continue the development of the Route 66 Neon Park.

The check presentation will take place at George M. Reed Roadside Park at 228 Old Route 66 in Saint Robert. The park, one of only two Route 66 roadside parks remaining in Missouri, will be the future location of the Route 66 Neon Park.

The public is invited and encouraged to attend. Social distancing will be observed. Face masks and hand sanitizer will be available.

Pulaski County Route 66 Preservation obtained neon signs to be the core of the featured installations at the open-air museum. The organization also shepherded the initial fundraising for the new Route 66 attraction.

“The City of St. Robert has been a great partner through the first phase of this project,” said Beth Wiles, president of Pulaski County Route 66 Preservation. “We are excited that the city will become the lead of this stage of development. They are able to bring a higher level of manpower and sustainability to the Route 66 Neon Park development.”

“The city is anxious to move forward with the project. We have hired Archer-Elgin Engineering and work has begun on measuring elevations on the property. We will begin the processes for restoring the first few signs in the coming weeks,” city administrator Anita Ivey said.

Wiles added, “Pulaski County Route 66 Preservation will continue to support this exciting project along Central Missouri’s segment of Route 66. We deeply appreciate the support shown to our organization. We encourage everyone to stay involved and help the city of St. Robert light up the night!”

The City of Saint Robert and Pulaski County Route 66 Preservation will share updates on the project to their Facebook pages. A groundbreaking ceremony will be announced at a future date.
