Zettlers Route 66 shop in Ash Fork reopens

The historic Zettlers Route 66 shop in Ash Fork, Arizona, reopened last month after it landed new owners earlier this summer.

According to the Williams-Grand Canyon News, Zettlers aims to cater to both tourists and locals by offering Route 66 memorabilia and souvenirs, hardware, appliances and camping gear.

The newspaper reported:

New owners Terry and Karen Tapp from Phoenix, Arizona said they are excited to bring back the nostalgia of Route 66 as well as offer something for locals.
“We are kind of carrying on a lot of what they (former owners Kirk and Yvette Slack) started,” Tapp said. […]
He is also planning to make a seating area outside and have a mural painted on the east wall.
“Outside, we’re clearing an area where we’ll be putting down flagstone and we’ll be putting up tents and sitting areas and we’ll have music,” he said. “Bottom line, we’ll open that up for vendors, flea markets, farmers market.”

Terry Tapp also owns the Top Shop vehicle upholstery shop in Phoenix, plus businesses in nearby Flagstaff, Parks and Williams.

Zettlers, founded by Homer and Marie Zettler in 1929, was a bakery, meat market and grocery in its earlier versions.

Zettlers at 242 W. Lewis Ave. (aka Route 66) is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. At one time, Zettlers was the oldest continuously operating business in Ash Fork.
