The Route 66-inspired Pixar animated film “Cars” from 2006 has three of the studio’s nine most-streamed songs on Spotify, including numero uno.
Screen Rant took a closer look at Pixar’s most popular songs on the streaming service. From the “Cars” movie, coming in at No. 7 is the mournful “Our Town,” with more than 10 million streams.
The song about a dying Route 66 town was sung by James Taylor and written by Randy Newman, who has written a number of few Pixar songs on the top-streaming list. “Our Town” also was nominated for an Oscar.
At No. 5 on the Pixar list is Sheryl Crow’s hard-driving “Real Gone,” which leads off the film. It’s logged more than 35 million streams.
At the top spot by a wide margin is Rascal Flatts’ version of “Life Is a Highway.” The remake of Tom Cochrane’s hit from 1991 became a hit again when it was included in the “Cars” soundtrack 15 years later.
Rascal Flatts’ cut of “Life Is a Highway” has logged an astounding 267 million streams — over 100 million more than the runner-up, Newman’s “You’ve Got a Friend in Me” from “Toy Story.”
On a related note, I recently created a long-overdue Spotify playlist of about 250 road-related songs:
