The Cookin’ From Scratch restaurant along Route 66 in Doolittle, Missouri, will close for good on March 16 due to an ownership change at the complex.
According to Phelps County Focus, Tony and Melissa Sherrer of Ozark Oil Co. LLC wrote in a Feb. 12 letter to vendors that Cookin’ From Scratch’s last day would be March 16 and that an adjacent gas station and convenience store still will be operating there.
The news outlet quoted the letter:
“As the ole saying goes, the only thing for sure is change! After much discussion and thought we have entered an agreement to sell our location as of April 1st, 2021. Over the last 20+ years we have made many friends and partnerships with so many great people along this journey. We appreciate each and every one of you! The new operators will continue to operate the convenience store and pizza/grab and go areas but will not continue operating Cookin’ From Scratch. The restaurant will be permanently closed on March 16th, 2021. While this is a difficult decision for us, our time here has passed. The new operators currently operate 12 locations across Texas, Louisiana and Oklahoma. Over the next few months, they will transition this location into their footprint.”
In addition to the giant fiberglass chicken affixed to an El Camino that greets customers near the restaurant, Cookin’ From Scratch was known for its Route 66 King of the Road special — a 66-ounce burger with nine slices of American cheese with all the fixings and 1 1/2 pounds of french fries that’s free if you can eat it all in 66 minutes.
