According to an earlier report, the Kingman Office of Tourism and the Historic Route 66 Association of Arizona commissioned a Route 66 drive-through sign due to popular demand. A temporary drive-through shield erected during the annual Route 66 Fun Run prompted questions about a more permanent installation.
Legacy Signs built the structure, which is engineered to withstand the region’s gusty winds. It stands near the visitors center, better known as the Powerhouse Museum, near First Street and Route 66.
Grants, New Mexico, built a similar Route 66 drive-through shield in 2016.
