While looking for something else, I stumbled upon this 20-minute feature about Route 66 that aired July 3, 1992, on ABC News “Nightline” program.
It’s a wonderful segment. You’ll see a number of businesses and people who’ve since departed almost 30 years later. You’ll also see a younger-looking Michael Wallis, Angel Delgadillo and Delbert Trew.
It was shortly after the publication of Michael Wallis’ best-selling “Route 66: The Mother Road” (Amazon link), and that year also was the 66th anniversary of Route 66.
If the embedding doesn’t work, go here to watch the segment. According to the time stamp on the video, ABC uploaded the feature to the internet only a few years ago.

That was an awesome video! Thanks for sharing.
Here is another road trip down Route 66 memory lane. Working on a 10th anniversary sequel now for the Spring of 2014 at the Petersen Automtive Museum.

If you can stand the late Stanley Marsh 3 and his hyperbolic b.s. and Wagner’s “Ride of the Valkyries” played over the Oatman Road section (funny because it’s so ridiculous), it’s a nice video. The interviews with the locals are the best. It’s jarring how much Route 66 has changed since this was broadcast in 1992, now nearly thirty years ago.
Am truly interested in watching the Nightline Route 66 video, but I have no idea what’s up with the ABC website. Slow as heck. It’s buffered for the best of 40 minutes and have had no luck. Am away from home and did an internet connection speed check moments ago: Download: 20.41 Mb/s Upload: 5.63 Mb/s
