A man is riding his unicycle down Route 66 from Chicago to Flagstaff, Arizona, to raise money for a charity that helped his family when he was seriously injured as a youngster.
According to KY3 in Springfield, Missouri, 19-year-old Peter Frank is trying to cycle 30 miles a day. A tracking device he wears indicated he was in Springfield on Tuesday night.
Frank wants to raise $100,000 for Beacon House in Marquette, Michigan, which allowed his family to stay there near the hospital while he was recuperating from injuries after being hit by an automobile when he was 14. He broke 14 bones, including two vertebrae in his back. Months of rehabilitation enabled him to walk again, then ride his unicycle.
“I want to be an inspiration to a lot of younger people who may be struggling through things that I’ve gone through, or just anything that they’re running through in their life right now that they may be having a hard time with,” said Frank. “I think that what I’m doing and my message might be able to inspire a lot of other kids that were just like me and don’t know where to go in the world.”
Frank has a YouTube channel here where he uploads clips frequently. His Facebook account is here. Frank’s website offers multiple ways to gave money to Beacon House.
