Creator of Giganticus Headicus to unveil 16-foot art creation on Nov. 6

Gregg Arnold, who created the 14-foot-tall Giganticus Headicus tiki sculpture nearly two decades ago, will unveil a 16-foot-tall art creation at the grand opening on Nov. 6 at the Antares Point visitor center and gift shop northeast of Kingman, Arizona.

The grand opening from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Antares Point, at mile marker 75 of Arizona Route 66 between Valle Vista and Kingman, will include a car and motorcycle show, vendors, giveaways and the unveiling of the as-yet-unnamed attraction by Arnold.

All proceeds from the car and motorcycle show and vendor fees will be donated to Feral Cat Warriors in Kingman, a spay/neuter organization that aims to reduce the population of wild cats in the city, according to a news release from Antares Point.

Here is the schedule of events:

  • 10 a.m. – Car/motorcycle show registration ($10 pre-registration or $15 day of the event)
  • 10 a.m.-3 p.m. – Vendors open
  • 11 a.m.-2:30 p.m. – Car Show
  • 2:30 p.m. – Unveiling of new attraction, created by Gregg Arnold
  • 3 p.m. – Car show awards
  • 3:30 p.m. – Autograph and photo session with Arnold

Raffles will be held every half-hour throughout the event.

Online registration for the car show is here. Prospective vendors should fill out this form.

Antares Point is situated at the former Kozy Corner Trailer Court and the Ranchero Motel.

Grand Canyon Caverns about 40 miles to the east announced in 2016 it was leasing the property and opening a Route 66 visitors center there, but the caverns gave up the lease in 2019.

In 2020, during the COVID-19 shutdowns, Arnold cleaned up the property and remodeled the main A-frame building. Antares Point held a soft opening on Easter weekend this year. The store’s T-shirts, stickers and metalwork can be found online here.
