An octagon home in Lincoln, Illinois, that earned internet fame with its nearly all-black interior and exterior no longer is on the market.
The Lincoln Courier reported in late December the house at 110 Edgar St. that the property is in the process of being sold to an out-of-town buyer, sight unseen. The prospective buyer was not disclosed.
The 1,547-square-foot house had been listed for $250,000, and its real-estate agent said people had been driving for five hours to tour it.
The house was called the “Goth Home” because of its nearly all-black appearance. It is not on Route 66. The property sits about a mile from either alignment of the Mother Road that traverses the city.
WGN in Chicago was among the first media outlets to report on the house last month and the story behind its appearance:
Realtor Seth Goodman … said he was always fascinated by the octagon-shaped property. He bought the home in August 2021 and immediately set out to renovate it for potential re-sell.
But after installing a new all-black shingle roof, Goodman went a step further and had the entire exterior redone with black gutters and matching vinyl siding. Goodman loved the look so much he took a page from Mick Jagger’s playbook and said “paint it black” for the interior.
Though unique in shape, the house isn’t historic. According to its Zillow listing, it was built in 1993.
Perusing Google Street View of the home’s address before its dark paint job, little of it can be seen from the street. Most of the view is only of the three-car garage.
