Arizona’s first mountain coaster has opened at Canyon Coaster Adventure Park in the classic Route 66 town of Williams, Arizona.
Mountain coasters are somewhat like roller coasters, except the individual rider has the option to control his or her speed on the descent. The Williams park’s coaster also contains an automatic braking system.
Fox10 in Phoenix filed this video report about the new attraction:
The key information from the story:
Fast or slow, the one-mile (about 1.61 km) coaster allows the rider to experience a variety of features such as steep descents, dips, twists, hairpin turns and 360-degree corkscrews all while enjoying the beautiful mountainside scenery.
“The most beautiful part for me is when you get up to the top, it is spectacular. You can see the whole town of Williams. It’s absolutely beautiful,” said Voigt.
Depending on a rider’s speed preference, they can be down the hill in about seven to 10 minutes.
According to its website, Canyon Coaster rides are $20 for adults and $10 for children with a driver age 18 and up.
The complex also has a mountain hill tubing facility that’s 400 feet long and will operate with or without snow on the ground.

I’ve seen videos of these on YouTube but really know how they work. For example: What if someone following you on the descent wants to go faster? There’s no way to pass.
