Donut Man to mark its 50th year tomorrow with a giveaway of 500 doughnuts

The Donut Man along Route 66 in Glendora, California, is celebrating its 50th year in business starting at 8 a.m. Monday with a free anniversary sprinkle doughnut with a $5 purchase

The Glendora shop is not only giving away the doughnuts but so is its newer shop inside the Grand Central Market in downtown Los Angeles — also on an alignment of Route 66.

Donut Man also stated on its Facebook page that it would hold a ribbon-cutting ceremony at its Glendora shop and give away merchandise, as well.

Donut Man probably is most famous for its strawberry doughnuts, which it offers each spring when the fruit is in season.

Donut Man founder Jim Nakano, whose family was sent to a Japanese-American internment camp in Arizona in World War II, eventually served in the Navy and was a manager at JC Penney before starting his shop in 1972.
