Josey Records’ animated neon sign in Tulsa is 40th to go through Route 66 grant program

Josey Records in Tulsa recently became the 40th entity that’s benefited from the city’s Route 66 neon-sign grant program.

Josey Records, at 1020 S. Rockford Ave. at East 11th Street (aka Route 66), and its new, animated neon sign were featured by the Tulsa Route 66 Commission on social media:

A few days later, the Tulsa Route 66 Commission showed this new neon sign for the Abogadas law firm in the Kendall-Whittier neighborhood that includes an older alignment of Route 66:

According to the latest data from city planner Dennis Whitaker, the city has awarded more than $286,000 in neon-sign grants to nearly 50 recipients. One prominent recipient is the historic Circle Cinema, which is scheduled to have its main sign restored.

Tulsa is fast rivaling Albuquerque in the number of neon signs along Route 66. Whitaker has acknowledged in that Albuquerque was a model for how Tulsa’s Route 66 corridor should look.
