Micah Choquette, the publisher of the Sapulpa Times, recently took a ride in a 100-year-old Packard car from the Heart of Route 66 Auto Museum in Sapulpa, Oklahoma.
The experience was videotaped by Venture Films, and the result is a 5 1/2-minute video that’s not only alluring but fascinating. That’s mostly because of museum founder Richard Holmes, who passes along plenty of information about Packards (who knew it doesn’t have a fuel gauge?).
The museum is offering 30-minute rides in the Packard for $11 apiece on Saturdays through October. Those who are interested should call (918) 216-1171 to reserve a space, though it’s apparently booked through August.
The museum is at 13 Sahoma Lake Road in Sapulpa, just off Route 66 on the city’s west side. It’s hard to miss — just look for the 66-foot-tall gas pump on the grounds.
