Station 66, a Route 66- and Texas-themed Airbnb site in an old gas station in Vega, Texas, will close in mid-November but is still taking bookings up to that time.
Karen Fangman, the operator of the site, posted on Facebook:
When asked by email what prompted her to close, Fangman responded: “To be honest it is just too much work and upkeep for me, with a full time job. It’s been a wonderful experience, though!”
Fangman added the site will be leased as a residence in 2023, reverting to its previous incarnation before she began decorating it in Texas and Route 66 themes as an Airbnb site about 4 1/2 years ago.
Station 66 never lacked for good reviews. It averaged five stars — the highest attainable — from 240 reviews since it opened.
Housed in a former Phillips 66 gas station built in 1950, Station 66 was situated along the main drag that also is Route 66.
