The Route 66 Visitor Center in west Albuquerque will host a ribbon-cutting and preview celebration for the long-awaited facility from 3 to 9 p.m. Friday.
The event will include music from Roberto Griego, The JDS and Al Hurricane Jr., food trucks, vendors and spectacular views from the facility atop Nine Mile Hill.
No on-site parking will be offered at the center for now. Park-and-ride services are being offered for attendees at two locations:
- Herrera Coaches, 10605 Central Ave. NW
- Central and Unser Blvd. Transit Park & Ride lot
The Route 66 Visitor Center will house a museum, tap room, New Mexico Music Hall of Fame and an events center.
KOB-TV in Albuquerque produced this report about the opening:
I’ve seen no information about when the center will have regular hours. I’ll pass those along when I get them.
UPDATE 10/1/2022: According to a follow-up report by the Albuquerque Journal, the center is not scheduled to fully open to the public until sometime next year.
