Afton Station in Afton, Oklahoma, has been put on the market for a second time since 2019, when it was auctioned after the owners’ deaths.
The former D-X gas station on Route 66 in the village’s downtown is being listed by Solid Rock Realtors for $200,000.
Here’s a description of the property:
OWN A PIECE OF HISTORY ON THE FAMOUS ROUTE 66! This former museum is a GREAT investment property with over 9000 SQ FT. 2 bathrooms, and 6 buildings that can accommodate multiple tenants. Each outbuilding has concrete floors and overhead doors. Also, plenty of room for parking! This is a Must-see property with so much potential.
Afton Station previously was put up for sale in early 2020 with an asking price of $174,000.
Louis Cox of nearby Ketchum, Oklahoma, and business partner Teresa McCoin bought the 1930s gas station for $72,000 at an auction in June 2019 after the previous owners’ deaths.
The Ottawa County Assessor’s Office confirmed this week that Cox and McCoin still own the station.
David and Laurel Kane, originally from Connecticut, bought the long-closed property in 1998 and spent two years restoring it.
Laurel turned the main building into a Route 66 welcome station for about 15 years, and David used the rest to store and work on his Packard collection.
Laurel, 69, died in January 2016 after a fall in her home in Tulsa. Her blog remains online more than six years after her death.
David Kane, 74, died in an accident at his home in Grove, Oklahoma, in August 2018.
Not long after that, Afton Station was closed and its contents liquidated.

Seems like a lot given how quiet Afton seems.
Laurel’s blog….being removed from 66 geographically, reading her blog daily was one of the things I enjoyed the most over the years. Sure do miss her.
