Partial teardown begins of Glancy Motel in Clinton

A partial demolition of the historic Glancy Motel in Clinton, Oklahoma, began a few days ago, likely making way for a new state police station.

Route 66 enthusiast Nick Gerlich happened to be driving through town when he encountered the demolition crews at work on the site at 217 W. Gary Blvd. (aka Route 66).

Gerlich details the ups (restoring the motel and rebuilding the adjacent Pop Hicks restaurant) and current downs of the site in the last 18 months:

Combine that development with the forthcoming demolition of the Trade Winds Inn (best known for its Elvis Room), it’s been a disappointing last year or so in Clinton.

The Glancy Motel was built in 1950 and remodeled in 2007, though it was condemned and closed about four years ago because of code violations.
