Filmmaker Katrina Parks announced her three-part “Route 66: The Untold Story of Women on the Mother Road” and the documentary “The Harvey Girls: Opportunity Bound” now are available to audiences for free on the streaming platform TubiTV.
According to a news release from Parks:
These films, which have been broadcast through American Public Television, explore how diverse women overcame gender discrimination and segregation to build fulfilling lives for themselves and generations to come on America’s Main Streets. Examining internationally recognized icons like Route 66 and the Atchison, Topeka, Santa Fe Railroad through a diverse female lens sheds new light on American history. From Chicago, Illinois to Los Angeles, California, filmmaker Katrina Parks has gathered interviews for her films for over 25 years. Her documentaries provide insight into some of the most important events of the 20th century. Both the Route 66 films and the Harvey Girls documentary feature interviews with diverse women, leading historians, authors, artists and cultural institutions with a vested interest in the history of the American West.
“Route 66: The Untold Story of Women on the Mother Road” also was shown in a few select cities along Route 66.
