Last year, the Heart of Route 66 Auto Museum in Sapulpa, Oklahoma, offered rides in a 1922 Packard for a small fee.
This year, the museum is taking reservations for rides in the Packard and a second, century-old vehicle — a 1922 Cadillac — starting in the late spring.
Rides will cost $15 per person and will take passengers from the museum to nearby Pretty Water Lake in Sapulpa.
Reservations are open for rides starting May 1 and lasting through the end of September. They will run each Saturday morning from 9 a.m. to noon with four drivers, weather permitting.
“The Packard car ride was widely successful last year, and we can’t wait to offer even more fun this year for individuals, couples, families and history lovers at our museum,” said Lina Holmes, executive director of the Heart of Route 66 Auto Museum.
The $15 ticket for a ride includes admission to the Heart of Route 66 Auto Museum, showcasing retro and historic cars, as well as popcorn.
People can book rides by calling the museum at (918) 216-1171.
The Heart of Route 66 Auto Museum opened in 2016. Museum officials secured a lease agreement for the decommissioned 45th National Guard Armory in Sapulpa in 2015.
Known for its 66-foot replica gas pump in front of the building, visitors from every U.S. state and nearly 100 countries have visited the museum.
In the next few months, the museum will begin construction on a 7,000-square-foot expansion to provide more space for cars, displays and events.
