The historic Tee Pee Drive-In theater in Sapulpa, Oklahoma, held its grand opening — or, more accurately, grand reopening — that included a classic-car show, a double feature and a marriage proposal.
Here are photos from the big event:
The theater will show “Back to the Future” Part 1 and 2 next weekend. Tickets are here.
The Tee Pee also is offering overnight stays in vintage travel trailers.
The Kante Group, which owns several other historic buildings in Sapulpa, purchased the Tee Pee in 2021 and began renovations on the long-neglected property.
The Tee Pee Drive-In was built in 1950. The last movie shown there previously was in 1999 or 2000.
The theater’s location is on the old Ozark Trail alignment of Route 66. That semi-rural stretch served as the Mother Road from 1926 to 1952 and includes the 1925 Rock Creek Bridge as a landmark.
The City of Sapulpa also recently built a new road just west of the theater that improves access to the Ozark Trail.
