Four restaurants with strong Route 66 ties each received $40,000 Backing Historic Small Restaurants grants from the National Trust for Historic Preservation and American Express.
The 25 restaurants receiving the 2023 round of grants were announced Friday by the National Trust. Here are the four along Route 66:
- Delgadillo’s Snow Cap, Seligman, Arizona
- Mitla Café, San Bernardino, California
- Mr. Powdrell’s Barbeque House, Albuquerque
- U-Drop Inn Café, Shamrock, Texas
The grants are designed to “improve their businesses and positively impact their communities.”
Since it began, the grant program has granted a total of $3 million to 75 historic restaurants (2021, 2022, 2023) to help restaurants address critical needs amid ongoing economic challenges during the COVID-19 pandemic.
“This critical financial support helps small restaurant owners better navigate supply chain issues, staffing shortages, inflation, and other crises so that their establishments’ legacies can continue,” the release stated.
