Michael Wallis talks about Route 66, “Cars” film and writing career in a recent TV interview

Bestselling author Michael Wallis recently sat down with a Tulsa TV station to talk about his long writing career, the “Cars” movie and his personal and professional connection to Route 66.

Wallis, 77, was plugging an appearance at the recently completed Route 66 Road Fest in Tulsa.

A lot of young people remember his small role as the Sheriff of Radiator Springs in the 2006 “Cars” movie. But he remains best known for writing “Route 66: The Mother Road” (Amazon link) in 1990.

That book became a million-seller and sparked Route 66’s renaissance that continues to this day.

  1. Thanks for posting this. Mike’s booming voice echoed through the newsroom (and bureaus) of the Beaumont (Tex.) Enterprise newspaper when I worked there in the mid-1970s. As y’all know, he’s a fabulous fellow … and a terrific reporter & writer. Always has been.
