Owner of Tally’s Good Food Cafe in Tulsa arrested on felony theft charges

The owner of the landmark Tally’s Good Food Cafe along Route 66 in Tulsa was arrested on multiple counts of felony larceny after being accused of shoplifting a total of 31 times.

KRMG Radio in Tulsa reported that Talal “Tally” Jamil Alame was arrested at his restaurant on Friday. He was freed on bond hours later.

According to the affidavit, Alame stole food items from Sam’s Club near 41st and Sheridan eight times between September and November of last year.

Another affidavit says Alame also stole from that store and another Sam’s Club nineteen more times between December and March of this year.

Court documents say four more incidents of theft occurred at the Owasso Sam’s Club in February and March 2023.

According to detectives, Alame pushed a flatbed through the store, selecting bulk items and using the Scan & Go app option. The Scan & Go app makes checking out more convenient for shoppers, allowing them to pay through the app.

Sam’s Club investigators say Alame did not scan all of the items before leaving the store.

The total worth of the shoplifted items was about $7,700,

Fox 23 in Tulsa reported another four shoplifting incidents attributed to Alame.

The Tulsa Police Department posted more information on Facebook:

Alame, a Lebanese immigrant who fled that country’s civil war in 1979, cut his teeth in the restaurant business by first working at Jamil’s Steakhouse, another Tulsa dining institution.

In 1987, he bought a restaurant on Route 66 in Tulsa, quickly expanded it and added a second location in town.

In addition to being one of the go-to places for Route 66 travelers once the University of Tulsa closed the Metro Diner in 2006 and tore down it down, he’s also served a free Thanksgiving dinner at the restaurant for anyone who shows up.
