A two-year renovation project on the once-troubled Imperial Inn motel in Albuquerque likely will be completed by the autumn.
The motel at 701 Central Ave. (aka Route 66) will have 52 guest rooms, 16 residential suites and several businesses.
KRQE-TV in Albuquerque filed this report:
According to RoadsideArchitecture.com, the Imperial Inn opened in the early 1960s as the Imperial 400 Motel, which was part of a chain that originated in Los Angeles.
The chain essentially ceased to exist after another company bought it out in 1987.
Renovations on the Imperial Inn are being done by Palindrome Communities, which is the same outfit that redeveloped the Monterey Motel and the once-endangered El Vado Motel.
El Vado also is a combination business incubator and boutique motel, and it’s become one of the city’s crown jewels along Albuquerque’s Route 66 corridor.

Great to see fresh ideas and capital invested a vintage Route 66 property. The El Vado motel renovation was a spectacular success. Will there be a neon sign for the Imperial Inn Motel? I hope so.
