Sapulpa’s Route 66 Christmas Chute to return on Nov. 16

Mark your calendars: The massively popular and elaborate Route 66 Christmas Chute in Sapulpa, Oklahoma, will return to the city’s downtown on Nov. 16.

The lights-on ceremony for the attraction on Route 66 will be at 5 p.m. that day.

KJRH-TV in nearby Tulsa reports:

This year the chute is supposed to be bigger and brighter according to organizers and they hope to find volunteers to help out with making the magic. Volunteers can get more details at Route66ChristmasChute.com.

Along with the chute, they have photo-ready spots, the local businesses open for late-night treats and shopping.

The inaugural chute last year featured 10 themed canopies heavily decorated along a closed three-block stretch of Dewey Avenue (aka Route 66).

The Route 66 Christmas Chute consisted of 35,000 feet of lights, 1,100 feet of decorations, 15,000 feet of garland, 3,500 icicles and 1,100 grand ball ornaments, culminating with a 30-foot-tall Christmas tree in front of the Creek County Courthouse. It was put together with $800,000 in donations and countless volunteer hours.

The chute enticed several new businesses to open downtown, and the attraction was featured on the “Today” show on NBC-TV.

This year’s Route 66 Christmas Chute will be open through Dec. 31.
