Otis Gibbs, who regularly posts interviews with music artists on his YouTube channel, recently was traveling on Route 66 and by happenstance bumped into Roger Miller’s brother in front of the Roger Miller mural in his adopted hometown of Erick, Oklahoma.
You’ll find the quirky sense of humor Roger had was passed along to his brother Wendall. He also tells some good stories.
If you haven’t been to Erick in a while, the Roger Miller mural is a good reason to stop by. The mural was painted about two years ago by Brian Lewis of Greensboro, North Carolina.
It’s on the building that once housed the Roger Miller Museum, on the southeast corner of the intersection of Roger Miller Boulevard (aka Route 66) and Sheb Wooley Street. Do-Wacka-Do Trail Runs and Gravel Rides — named after one of Miller’s songs — in Erick helped fund the mural.
Roger Miller was born in Texas but spent most of his formative years in Erick. Among his hits during the 1960s were “King of the Road,” “Dang Me,” “Chug a Lug,” “Kansas City Star,” “Husbands and Wives” and “Little Green Apples.”

Thanks for sharing this video, Ron ! It’s awesome…. I think it’s really sad that the Roger Miller Museum closed. I wonder where the contents are now ?
