West Central Route 66 Visitor Center in Albuquerque offers sneak-preview hours

The West Central Route 66 Visitor Center won’t open until sometime next year, but the facility is offering sneak-preview hours while stuff is being moved into the facility.

The center stated this in a recent Facebook post:

Open on Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm, these preview days provide a unique opportunity to explore the facility and witness the transformation in progress. While some areas may still be under construction, this sneak peek allows visitors to experience exhibits, displays, and interactive features.

The West Central Route 66 Visitor Center is at 12300 Central Ave. SW (aka Route 66) on top of Nine Mile Hill near Atrisco Vista and Interstate 40.

The Route 66 Visitor Center, which cost $13 million to build, was set to open to the public by spring 2023. A grand opening then was tentatively set for August, but it missed that deadline, as well.

An Albuquerque Journal reporter checked into the delays in May. Officials cited construction issues and a shortage of appliances.
