The owner of Gearhead Curios of Galena, Kansas, is commissioning a new, nearly 20-foot-tall Muffler Man called “Big A the Texaco Man” that he hopes will be standing at his business by summer 2024.
“Big A” is being made by Enchanted Castle Studios, which has made other Muffler Men or fiberglass giants around the country — most notably Buck Atom of Buck Atom’s Cosmic Curios on Route 66 in Tulsa.
Gearhead Curios owner Aaron Perry wrote in a social media post he put down the deposit for his new Muffler Man. So it’s apparent he’s committed to having one.
Perry is launching a fundraiser to help cover some of the costs. Levels run from 1 cent to $99.99, $100 to $249.99, $250 to $499.99 and $500 and up. Donations should be mailed to:

Perry in 2018 acquired a 1939 Texaco gas station, along Route 66 in downtown Galena.
Since that time, he’s added a Doc Hudson replica from the “Cars” movie, installed neon lighting and added a modified Big Boy statue, along with a lot of renovations.
Muffler Men have seen a revival in recent years, with several along Route 66 restored or created from scratch. A site dedicated to Muffler Man, the American Giants Museum, also recently opened along Route 66 in Atlanta, Illinois.
