The 140-year-old Luna Mansion, located prominently along the original alignment of Route 66 in Los Lunas, New Mexico, has been put up for sale for $1.8 million.
According to Albuquerque Business First (subscription required), the 5,400-square-foot mansion at 119 Main St. (aka Route 66) was a restaurant until it closed in 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic. It’s being listed by Marlessa Sanchez of RE/MAX.
Pete and Hortencia Torres are the current owners of the property. The husband-and-wife duo bought the establishment in 2009.
“The ideal buyer is someone who respects and will preserve the history of the property,” Sanchez said. “Someone who will potentially want to return fine dining to Valencia County and revive a beautiful event space.”
The mansion reputedly is haunted by Josefita Otero, who died during renovations to the home in 1951. It’s said to be one of the most haunted properties in New Mexico.
The mansion was built in 1881 as a gift from the Santa Fe Railway in exchange for right-of-way through the Luna-Otero land grant.
Los Lunas is part of the 1926-1937 alignment of Route 66 that ran north to Sante Fe, then south through Albuquerque.
