Dave Myers, one-half of The Hairy Bikers, dies of cancer at 66

Dave Myers, one-half of “The Hairy Bikers” of British television fame, died of cancer at age 66, reported his partner in crime, Si King.

The Hairy Bikers embarked on a Route 66 trip for “The Hairy Bikers” series in 2019 on BBC2.

As we described it at the time: “It’s part travelogue, part cultural immersion, part history and part cooking show. There’s nothing quite like it on television.”

King, writing on The Hairy Bikers page on Facebook, announced Myers’ death on Thursday:

The duo also published 25 best-selling cookbooks.

The Associated Press reported:

Myers was working as a make-up artist specializing in prosthetics when he first met King on the set of a BBC television drama in 1995.

The pair first appeared together in “The Hairy Bikers’ Cookbook” on the BBC in 2004. The show features them riding around countries including Portugal and Namibia, sampling local dishes and having a go at cooking them themselves. […]

Following his cancer diagnosis, Myers briefly took a break from work before filming his last show with King, “The Hairy Bikers Go West.” The show, which is currently airing, sees them travel down Britain’s west coast from Scotland to Devon.

Myers leaves behind a wife and two stepchildren.
