The Tulsa Route 66 Commission recently touted the existence of the largest neon sign that has gone through the city’s Route 66 Neon Sign Grant Program.
It’s nearly 100 feet long. And it’s not vintage — it’s new.
It’s on the roof of Santa Fe Square, which sits on the Second Street alignment of Route 66 in the city’s downtown.
Dennis Whitaker, a planner with the city, stated by email that the sign measures 97 feet, 6 inches long by 6 feet, 9 inches tall.
Whitaker said 64 applications in the neon sign grant program have been completed, await permits or the signs are being made.
According to a 2021 article by Tulsa Public Radio, Santa Fe Square is a $125 million mixed-use development of apartments and retail that’s been planned for about 20 years. It’s under construction but should be finished soon.
