American Giants Museum erects another Muffler Man during its grand opening weekend

The American Giants Museum in Atlanta, Illinois, erected a second Muffler Man — a rare Texaco Big Friend — during its grand opening on Memorial Day weekend.

In addition, the event included the Gemini Giant, reclining on a flatbed trailer, paying a visit to the museum before it’s restored and reinstalled at a park in Wilmington, Illinois.

The Texaco Big Friend is one of only six surviving from the original 300 produced by International Fiberglass Company in the mid-1960s.

An original Viking Carpet Giant also was scheduled to be installed during the weekend, but that was delayed to later this summer.

The American Giants Museum is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. Admission is free.

UPDATE 6/3/2024: Joel Baker posted a video about the big weekend.
